Fabric sourcing at Color Silk

Color Silk, owned by Vanntha Ngorn one of our former participants, shared her experiences at the MEDC as well as giving us an insight into the trade fair in Berlin. She

Visit to Fair Sew

For the very first time our participants got the chance to visit the garment manufacturer Fair Sew, owned and founded by Anneliese Helmy, an Australian fashion designer. At Fair Sew each employee is offered a fair and safe work environment.

Fabric Sourcing at Khmer Artisanry

Khmer Artisanry, owned by Seila Polham, was also on our list for the sourcing of fabric. Seila, who is the principle founder of Khmer Artisanry was also one of our participants in the first course. She shared her impressions of MEDC and her know-how of natural dye as well as the incooperation of Ikat in textiles made from silk. Another highlight was her experience at the trade fair Apparel Sourcing in Paris.

Fabric Sourcing at A.N.D

Third on our list was A.N.D. where we found out about the different types of Ikat and fabrics that are offered there. The participants had the opportunity to find a big variety of fabrics which were produced by their community in, e.g. Takeo Province. We had the pleasure of meeting Alan Flux, the owner of A.N.D, and the store’s manager as well as designer Yusof Min Pheap. Mr. Pheap told us about his successful experience at Bazaar Berlin for which he had been chosen in the previous course.

Fabric Sourcing at Lotus Silk

The second stop on our excursion was Lotus Silk. Lotus Silk belongs to Vannary San, one of our former participants and winners of the very first MEDC course. Our participants got to see different types of tie-dyeing patterns which were produced by Lotus Silk and its Community

Fabric Sourcing at Watthan Artisans

Our participants get to know local fabric producers who support different weaving and dyeing communities. The first stop of our fabric sourcing excursion was Watthan Artisan. They were able to take a look at the process behind the scenes as it is important to understand what measures must be taken to produce the fabric in a sustainable and ethical manner.

Moodboard Creation

One of our students’ first steps to creating a collection is the development of multiple moodboards. They concentrate on different color schemes, textures that can be created with different fabric manipulation techniques, and the illustration of moods and atmosphere to create a concept and storyline.
